Govt. signs a deal with People!! (TV and Stove for their Cognition, thinking and discriminating minds.)

Its’ INDIA!! No wonder it is... A Developing nation sending Satellite carriers for other nations and empowering USA’s knowledge capital is now led by Freebies politics with free Television Sets. I live in an urban area named Chromepet wherein middle class families reside. Last two days were highly dramatic... Thanks to CM’s Offer... Free television Sets distributed… Not necessary that you worry to which class of Economy you belong to…If you have a valid Ration Card… You deserve one!! Well if you have two ration cards to the same house, you are luckier!!
I sometimes wonder why people lose all their ability to think, the moment they hear the word “FREE”. Not to accuse the politicians once again. It’s the media magic, I feel!! Well, I saw the house holders with wall mounted Plasma TV sets back in their house fighting with the authorities last evening in this issue. Our Street has some organized association, which arranged the distribution of the Tokens assisting the counselor. Immediate objections were raised by other street members in the same ward raising queries of Bias. Few even went more violent.
Well, this made me think the pitiable and awful situation we are in currently. Tamil Nadu alone faces a Loan Burden crossing several lakh crore already. Corporations struggle already due to the mounting of E-wastes and their disposal. The Price hike, fuel costs, Changing climate, traffic accidents, Goonda’s dominations, Real estate frauds, contagious diseases, Water Scarcity... and loads. Maybe that’s why the Govt. tries to shut everyone’s mouth… “Don’t Worry… Sit Back… Watch TV!!”
In this place I would like to just throw light on how the Govt. in Kerala few years back acted. It had set up missions to spread and inculcate the habit of reading books. It turned out to be a great hit. People started to think and the voted rather rationalistic persons, in elections. I am not against TV viewing. Nor I am going to advice like watch only BBC or Discovery. But, I just wonder why the Govt. did not arrive at a forward thinking to really make a positive impact on the people and impress them to win votes.
I wish they set up high speed broadband hubs in the villages and in the city they can modernize the infrastructure further. A TV set costs 2000 rupee and In Chennai alone we have one lakh houses nearly. The money invested here is enough to set up a high speed Wifi Sticks at Hotspots and schools. It enriches the people with greater space. It’s INFOTAINMENT Era!!!
Human resource training in Govt. School is a useful investment rather dumping the E-Wastes in the form of Television. This can yield you more votes, my dear politicians. Simple logic is that instead of giving you a fish, I am teaching you to catch one. I also wanted to make clear the clichĂ© concept of “the common man”, the public. The Biggest mistake which we the common men commit is that we don’t really care about the mockeries against us. The Govt. mocks at us. Simple Funda.!! “ Give them catchy stuff freely!! Publicize.. Win votes.. They Don’t think really”!! Sad thing for INDIA is that biggest and highly potent business minds sit in the politics!!
It’s high time we realize this mockery. And within my house, Thanks to my brother, we did not have a television set in my home till now. We didn’t need one actually. Nobody is there to watch it here. But Now, everyone here justifies against my opposing to this TV set acquiring. Awfully, I am made a victim too…!!

  1. well, no 1 knows what kind of money is into manufacturing these ...conclusions can be drawn from transparency which wont happen....until then things wil be biased. Moreover govt tries to win the support of the masses than its development, just a drama happening.may be the egyptian fever should catch to get a firm foot hold of things.

  2. I don't think anything other than the public money is poured in here. Winning support doesn't necessarily need people to lose thinking capability. Egyptian fever is a big word here perhaps.. A small kindle is suffice and the revolution shall be lit in people's mind rather than a violent physical one. If I point out you being exploited which you fail to notice because of your stupidity, how annoyed you become. the same thing I am trying out :) Hopefully, I find people who care about being exploited.

  3. Hey vaibhav....i too got this same offer a month back... My parents refused it... And again school teachers came home and asked y we dint want tat TV, last sunday... My parents were sensible enough to tell we don want anything for free..We have a TV already... And it was the school which is now in problem as it has to get rid of the TVs dumped in their classrooms!!!!!!!!!! I don't think many people are going to realise wat is happening...
As u told the word FREE makes them blind to things... And these TVs burn out easily...I heard many such incidents...It is our Tax money which is being wasted...Hope people take this to mind rather than Rs.1000 being given for the TV upon sale (resale)...!!!!!!!!!!

  7. There is no such thing as FREE.If people start questioning the funding for such a policy , then there might be some illumination.
The ruling party is using the people’s tax money to promote itself. It is the same knowledge that drives even the well to do to obtain the sets. The sets are of bad quality ( as Shri says ) and contributing to the mountain of e-wastes .Moreover , if they don’t get one , it will go to the black markets.
My questions to everybody (including the gov)
1)What well being is a TV set going to promote to the poor?.With so many poor farmers commiting suicide, this is a lavish and stupid way to invest money? First
2)It is a cheap trick to provide TV sets to the WHOLE of TN. It would have made some sense to give it to the economically backward .But there are some ppl with 2 TV sets willing to install the free one in their bathrooms!!
3)Even if the economically backward are using the TVs , there are a few expenses that will be incurred :
    a) Current costs
    b)Cable charges

  8. even after these happenings , tamilnadu was awarded the best state in india by cnn ibn because there are not many states which can return back the tax money indirectly...
